Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
Academic Workflows is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We build our products with the understanding that school district websites and vendor tools must be accessible to all users, including students, parents, educators, and administrators who rely on assistive technologies.
Conformance standard
This website targets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA conformance. WCAG 2.1 is the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Level AA conformance is the standard referenced by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and is the benchmark used by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) when evaluating school district websites.
What we do
Accessibility is built into our development process, not layered on after the fact. Our practices include:
- Semantic HTML with proper heading hierarchy and ARIA landmarks
- Keyboard navigation support for all interactive elements, including dialogs and forms
- Color contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimums (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Focus indicators visible on all interactive elements
- Form inputs with associated labels and accessible error messaging
- Decorative images and icons hidden from screen readers with aria-hidden
- Skip navigation link for keyboard users
- Respect for prefers-reduced-motion user preferences
- Regular manual testing with keyboard-only navigation and screen readers
Applicable laws and standards
We design with the following legal and regulatory frameworks in mind: Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and California Government Code Section 7405. These collectively require that digital content provided by or on behalf of public educational agencies be accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort. Some third-party content or integrations (such as embedded payment forms via Stripe) may have their own accessibility characteristics that are outside our direct control. We work with vendors who share our commitment to accessibility and continuously evaluate these integrations.
Report an issue
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this website or any Academic Workflows product, we want to know. We take every report seriously and will work to resolve issues promptly.
Please contact us at accessibility@academicworkflows.com with a description of the issue, including the page URL and the assistive technology you were using (if applicable). We aim to respond within two business days.
